Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit uksmarthome.com or buy from us, what we do with it, and your rights over it.

Who we are

UK Smart Home is run by Pimoroni Ltd (company number 07510759), Unit 1, Parkway Business Park, Parkway Drive, Sheffield, S9 4WN. Pimoroni Ltd is the data controller for your information. For anything to do with your personal information, email hi@uksmarthome.com.

What we collect

Orders: your name, billing and delivery addresses, email address, phone number and what you bought. Card payments are handled by our payment providers; we never see or store your full card number.
Your account: if you create one, your login details and order history.
Trade account applications: your name, business details and contact information.
Emails from us: your email address, if you sign up to our newsletter.
Messages: anything you send us through the contact form or by email.
Your visit: your IP address, browser and device, the pages you view and how you arrived, collected through cookies and similar technology.

How we use it

To process and deliver your orders, take payment and handle returns, because we need to in order to fulfil our contract with you.
To answer your questions and look after your account or trade account, for the same reason.
To check orders for fraud and keep the site secure, because we have a legitimate interest in doing so.
To understand how the site is used and improve it, because we have a legitimate interest in doing so.
To send you our newsletter, only if you've agreed to it. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
To keep records we're required to by law, such as for tax.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with the companies that help us run the shop, and only what they need:

Shopify, which runs our online store and checkout (Shopify's privacy policy).
Payment providers, such as Shopify Payments and PayPal, to take your payment.
Delivery companies, who need your name, address and contact details to deliver your parcel.

We may also share information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights. We never sell your personal information.

Some of these companies process information outside the UK, including in Canada and the United States. Where they do, it's protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law.

Cookies

We use the cookies Shopify needs to run the shop, such as remembering your basket and region, and Shopify's built-in analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't currently use third-party advertising or tracking tools. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the shop, like the basket, may not work without them.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for six years, as UK tax law requires. We keep your account until you ask us to close it, and your newsletter subscription until you unsubscribe. Other information is kept only as long as we need it for the reasons above.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it or send it to another organisation. You can object to how we use it, and withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. To do any of these, email hi@uksmarthome.com.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
